Several attractions bring visitors to Chautauqua County, New York over and over again. The biggest by far is Chautauqua Institution. But after visiting the area, Chautauqua tourists find so much more than they bargained for. Chautauqua is one of the nicest places when looking for New York State tourism attractions.
I have hiked through the Chautauqua County Gorge several times since I was young and each time I still find a new waterfall, bridge, fishing area or swimming hole that I didn't see before. It is a most beautiful place in the summer but the winter scenery is also spectacular. There are several fishing holes and some places in the gorge that are annually stocked with fish.
Many visitors come just for the water activities that the lake provides. While fishing is popular so is boating, visiting NYS Parks and camping on the Lake.
A favorite place to visit for the kids is Midway Park which is located right on Chautauqua Lake and will provide hours of entertainment for the whole family. Three water parks in the area also provide hours of fun for family activities.
Chautauqua County also hosts several events at different times throughout the year.

Other Places to Visit around Chautauqua
Other popular places in the area provide you with the entertainment you may be searching for too. There is an opera house, comedy house, several places where plays and theaters are performed and there are movie theaters. There is a candyfactory (specializing in goat milk fudge), several art galleries and museums.

Bemus Point Attractions
If you visit the other side of the lake and go into Bemus Point, you will be delighted with this small lake community. The floating stage here in Bemus comes alive on warm summer nights as people gather around the stage to see the tremendous performances. While sitting outside among friends, people come together to enjoy the entertainment, the summer air, the lake atmosphere and the delicious foods available from the fabulous restaurants located all around.
