Mayville, New York has been the place for unusual sightings during the past year.  Last Spring, the news was that a black bear was spotted on the streets of Mayville in the Chautauqua area.  This year it's sightings of an albino deer that have people talking and wishing that they could catch a glinpse of this rare animal.  It has been seen and photographed by a few in the area.  It is seen most often on Morris Road or near that area where the young doe must make its home.

For an animal to turn out albino, both parents must carry the albino gene.  If two albino deer breed, they would have only albino's.  The chances of a deer being an albino is one in 30,000 or so.

Being that it is hunting season, the topic of the albino deer in these parts has come up in conversations quite frequently.  The deer has been spotted several times this Fall.  With no snow as of yet this winter, the deer's white coat sticks out like a sore thumb amoungst the dark colored trees and fallen leaves.  Hopefully hunters will take advantage of the fact that there is a chance that they may catch a glimpse of this unique and unusual animal and take pictures instead of taking a shot.
