The Gus Macker Basketball Tournament in Chautauqua County will take place in Jamestown, NY on June 6th and 7th. Jamestown and the Resources Center have been host to the tournament for over 12 years. Trying out a variety of tournament locations in the city throughout the years, the 2009 tournament will be held at the Third Street location. The Macker tournament is designed for almost any age group and ability level from ages 7-50+.
Jamestown usually sees approximately 200 participants. Teams are matched up by age, height and experience then placed in Junior, Adult or Top categories. Each team gets at least three scheduled games. The Macker is a double elimination tournament with the consolation game being the "Toilet Bowl" for the teams who lose their first two.
The local organizing committee in Jamestown and sponser of the tournament is the Resouces Center. Profits from the Gus Macker go to the Resource Center and The TRC Foundation. Services of these organizations help persons with disabilities who live in Chautauqua County.
