Phase one of the Grape Discovery Center project has begun at the former Sherman Ford building on Rt. 20 in Westfield, NY. It is a major project in the Westfield area with hopes that it will bring several hundred visitors to the Chautauqua County area in the next few years. The initial phase of the project includes demolishion and outdoor renovations to the building. Several indoor renovations will follow. Phase one of the project has been funded through a grant from State Sen. Cathy Young.
Other phases of the project will be completed but there is really no time schedule available at this point as funds for the project will depend upon other grants and /or private fundraisers. Westfield officials and residents are excited about the center being located in Westfield which is the heart of the Concord Grape Belt area. The Concord Grape Belt Heritage Association have been the ones spearheading this idea and project.
The Grape Discovery Center upon completion will include a grape learning center featuring multiple exhibits and displays, a media room showing educational materials, a gift shop and snack bar. Local vineyard tours will also be available to visitors.
The Grape Discovey Center will potentially help to increase interest in the grape industry including the wineries and will help draw attention to the other attractions in the area as well.
