Spend a day of your vacation traveling around the lake and visit the 21 Lake Erie wineries that make up the 40 mile stretch referred to as the Chautauqua Lake Erie Wine Trail. People have been making wine here for as long as I can remember. Years ago, people took the grapes and made wine storing it in barrels in their basements but times have changed since then. You will be able to see, and better yet, taste, the newest as well as some of the oldest wines. As you drive, you will see the vineyards that surround the area especially all along Lake Erie.
A Grape Discovery Center will soon be a new Chautauqua County tourist attraction. The site, to be located in Westfield, NY, will include tours, gift shops, a snack shop and possibly interactive displays. Your visit to the wineries in the area will include tours, information and taste testing. Wine is available for purchase and after tasting the different kinds of wine available you will be sure to find one or more of them to be irresistible.
The Lake Erie Wineries along the Lake Erie/Chautauqua Wine Trail are a popular way to spend the day and are stocked with several varieties of wine for testing. Chautauqua County NY and Erie, PA being home to the oldest and largest Concord Grape Growing Region in the world, will make your visit one that you will surely remember.
