You may love searching for beach glass gems if you love walking along the shore and if you are somewhat of a collector. Walking and finding small, colorful gems washed up after years of being in the water can be very exciting.
This is one of my favorite hobbies. The treasures, sometimes also referred to as seaglass is plentiful along Lake Erie and it is a great way to spend a day at the beach. Finding special gems along the shores can be a great adventure. Kids like to find them too. I have several jars of them at home and just continue to collect them. I even made a wind chime out of some of the larger pieces last summer.
Being somewhat creative, I have turned some of my best finds into beautiful pieces of jewelry. The necklace below shows a necklace I made out of a piece I found along the Lake Erie shore.
Some pieces of glass are common and can be found along the shore almost all the time. Other pieces are very rare and very hard to find. Finding a rare piece can be the most exciting experience. Jewelry made out of the rare pieces can be sold and can be very expensive. Red and orange are said to be the rarest colors of all to find. It is said that a bright red piece may be found in one out of every 5000 pieces.
As I become more and more involved in finding these unique treasures and making jewelry, I have learned several ways of putting the pieces of jewelry together. One way is wire wrapping but one of the hardest ways is drilling glass. I am still trying to master the technique and sometimes I break nice pieces but I will continue on and maybe someday have some beautiful beach glass jewelry for sale on my site.
